Objective:

Discuss how to advance ESC regional cooperation in the post-2015 era by re-designing the HLS ESC in 2017 to be responsive and effective at addressing ASEAN’s needs and priorities in line with global events and emerging trends from:

  • ASEAN ESC Model Cities Programme;
  • ASEAN Community 2016 – 2025;
  • Localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • 2015 Paris Climate Conference - COP21 and others.

Objective: Enable frank discussion and learning among cities on important emerging challenges for which evidence of good practices and solutions are still being explored or experimented with.

City representatives are grouped based on their interested topics and learn directly from other experienced cities. Potential topics (based on latest feedback collected by the Secretariat) are:

  • How to design stable grassroots institutions to improve the sustainability of community-based projects in a changing political environment.
  • How to collaborate more deeply and creatively with the private sector, beyond the CSR framework
  • Others (a survey will be issued to cities for suggestions before the seminar)
